The first form of the diremption of the Idea. Theoretical cognition wants to understand the world, to grasp it, to penetrate it. It presupposes objectivity as given and seeks to think it through. From intuition through representation to the concept.
Origin: In Hegel: cognition as the first stage of the Idea after life. The opposition of subject and object becomes conscious.
