Hegel (Logic of Measure)
The qualitative leap that occurs with quantitative change. Quantity turns into quality — for example, water into steam at 100°C. This transformation shows the dialectical unity of quantity and quality.
Origin
Hegel's term for the sudden change of quality. Engels turns it into a "law of dialectics."
