Self-sublation

The third of the three fundamental processes (S³) of the Idea of Life (Ch. 19.4.3). It corresponds to "being-out-of-itself" as a moment of self-relation (Ch. 19.1). Self-sublation is the movement whereby a system goes beyond itself in order to renew itself at a higher level. It is more than mere **reproduction** (copying), since it performs the full dialectical structure of **sublation**: 1. **Preserving:** identity is maintained (e.g., the genus, tradition). 2. **Overcoming:** the old, individual form passes away (e.g., the individual dies, the old form of theory is revised). 3. **Elevating:** the new is richer, more developed (e.g., evolution, paradigm shift, reform). Without self-sublation, a system stagnates and dies with the individual; it lacks development.
