Self-Sublation

The third of the three fundamental processes (S³) of the Idea of Life (Ch. 19.4.3). It corresponds to "being-out-of-itself" as a moment of self-relation (Ch. 19.1). Self-sublation is the movement by which a system goes beyond itself in order to renew itself at a higher level. It is more than mere **reproduction** (copying), since it carries out the full dialectical structure of **sublation**: 1. **Preserving:** Identity is retained (e.g., the species, tradition). 2. **Overcoming:** The old, particular form passes away (e.g., the individual dies, the old form of theory is revised). 3. **Elevating:** The new is richer, more developed (e.g., evolution, paradigm shift, reform). Without self-sublation, a system stagnates and dies along with the individual; it lacks development.
