Relation

Relation means relationship, connection. In Kant, one of the four groups of categories (substance/accident, causality, reciprocity). In Hegel it matters throughout: relations are not external connections between already-finished terms; rather, the terms first come to be through their relation. Example: teacher/student are relational concepts---neither exists without the other. Highest form: relation that knows itself (reciprocity, the concept).
