Relation

Relation means relationship, connection. In Kant, one of the four groups of categories (substance/accident, causality, reciprocity). In Hegel, it is important throughout: relations are not external connections between already-finished terms; rather, the terms first come to be through their relation. Example: teacher and student are relational concepts—neither exists without the other. Highest form: relation that knows itself (reciprocity, the concept).
