Correspondence Theory of Truth

Traditional epistemology

Truth as agreement of thought and reality (*adaequatio intellectus et rei*). A statement is true if it agrees with the facts. Problem: presupposes that thought and reality exist independently of each other and can then be compared. Overlooks the constitutive role of thought in disclosing reality.

In Hegel

Presented in the "idea of the true" (theoretical idea) and recognized as one-sided --- it overlooks its own constitutive role.

The correspondence theory corresponds to the theoretical idea in Hegel --- to cognition, which proceeds from the given object to adequate concepts. It remains at the separation of concept and object, instead of comprehending their unity.
