The sixth ethical criterion: act so that purposes are not merely imposed from outside, but are internal. Derived from the structure of life --- life is self-purpose, not a mere means.

Origin

Kant: organism as end in itself. Hegel: life as inner purposiveness (in contrast to the outer purposiveness of technology).
