Development
Hegel (processual principle)
Development is the process through which potency becomes actuality. What is in itself becomes for itself. In logic: the categories develop out of one another (each is the result of the previous one). In nature: the development of life (seed → organism). In spirit: the development of consciousness (phenomenology). Hegel's development is not mechanical-linear, but dialectical-contradictory: through negation, crisis, sublation. Development is not addition, but qualitative leap. The end is in the beginning, but as potency — development realizes it.
Origin
Lat. *evolutio* (unfolding). Aristotle: *kinēsis* (movement) from *dynamis* (potency) to *energeia* (actuality). Evolutionary theory (Darwin): biological development. Hegel: development as a universal principle (logic, nature, spirit).
