Being-in-and-for-itself

The developed unity of being-in-itself and being-for-itself. Something is in and for itself when it is what it is according to its concept, and also knows or enacts this.

Origin

Hegel's synthesis: not merely in itself (potentiality) or for itself (self-relation), but both in unity.
