Johann Friedrich Flatt

Johann Friedrich Flatt (1759–1821) was a student of Gottlob Christian Storr, became a Repetent (resident tutor) at the Tübingen Stift in 1782, and an associate professor in 1792.

He taught Hegel metaphysics and belonged to the group of theologians who sought to turn Kant against Kant: the limits of reason that Kant had drawn were meant to secure space for revelation. It was this Tübingen fusion of Kantianism and orthodoxy against which Hegel and his roommates turned.
