For Hegel, this is not merely an empirical collection of facts, but the systematically comprehended whole. The "Science of Logic" is the science of pure thought-determinations (Ch. 1.1). Science is the "conceptual re-enactment" of the matter itself, as a "self-organizing whole" (Ch. 26.3), which structures itself through definition, division, and proof (inferences) (Ch. 11.14).
