Beyond

Hegel (Critique)

A determination that is posited as unattainable or as lying "beyond" appearance. Hegel criticizes the positing of a beyond (e.g., Kant's "thing-in-itself," Chap. 5.4, or "bad infinity," Chap. 1.9) as an empty abstraction of the understanding.
