Formal Logic

The traditional logic, going back to Aristotle, which deals with the formal validity of inferences (syllogistics, the law of contradiction, A=A). Hegel criticizes it as "logic of the understanding," which remains abstract (empty of content, tautological), stops at fixed oppositions, and does not grasp the self-movement of the concept (dialectic, sublation).
