Detective Principle

The integration of coherence and correspondence in the search for truth. Like a detective, one collects many small clues (quantitative phase) until suddenly a coherent overall picture emerges (qualitative leap). The principle shows that truth is neither pure agreement with facts (correspondence) nor mere inner consistency (coherence), but the productive interplay of both. Sometimes what is decisive is not the absolute quantity of evidence, but the relations of the pieces of evidence to one another.

Corresponds to the dialectic of quantity and quality (measure), as well as to the "complete ground" in the Logic of Essence --- when all partial grounds are present, the matter necessarily comes into appearance.

The detective principle logically corresponds to the transition from quantity to quality (measure) and to the structure of complete grounding in the Logic of Essence. The gradual accumulation of clues (quantity) turns into a new quality of knowledge (measure).
