Karl Friedrich Ludwig Felix von Rumohr

Karl Friedrich von Rumohr (1785–1843) was an art historian and one of the founders of German art scholarship.

His Italian Researches relied on archives and direct observation rather than on received tradition — the same turn toward the source that was transforming historiography at the same time. For Hegel’s aesthetics, this represented the state of knowledge about Italian painting.
