Karl Ernst Schubarth

Karl Ernst Schubarth (1796–1861) was a writer on philosophy and aesthetics and had been acquainted with Goethe since 1820.

He spent three years trying to obtain a habilitation under Hegel and later wrote against him — his 1839 book On the Incompatibility of Hegel’s Theory of the State with the Prussian State reversed the charge still leveled at Hegel today: that he had not been too close to the state, but not close enough.
