Johann Karl Fischer

Johann Karl Fischer (1760–1833) was a mathematician, professor in Jena from 1792, later in Dortmund and Greifswald.

He was among the Jena colleagues from Hegel’s time of habilitation. Hegel’s own dissertation of 1801 dealt with the orbits of the planets — mathematics was closer to him at the time than later reception is willing to acknowledge.
