Johann Gottlob Schneider

Johann Gottlob Schneider (1750–1822) taught Greek language in Frankfurt an der Oder from 1776, and philology in Breslau from 1811.

His Greek-German dictionary was the first to establish its vocabulary directly from the sources themselves. The classical philology that was then emerging provided Hegel with the texts on which he drew in the History of Philosophy.
