Johann Friedrich Breyer

Johann Friedrich Breyer (1738–1826) was a cousin of Hegel’s father — his mother Eberhardina Friederike was born a Hegel. He studied theology in Tübingen, was a repetent at the Stift (the Tübingen seminary) from 1766 to 1770, and became professor of philosophy in Erlangen.

Through him a connection existed between Hegel’s family and the academic world, before Hegel himself entered the Stift.
