The Three Levels, Once More
In the end, one can say what the distinction from Chapter 2 has yielded.
The claims about particulars have been refuted, mostly during Hegel’s lifetime or shortly after. He corrected some himself — the asteroids are the evidence.
The state of science is outdated, and that was foreseeable. Hegel knew it: he gave the lecture five times and reworked it every time.
The method is untouched by this. It consists of a question — how far does the relation reach into the object? — and of an ordering of the answers. Both can be examined without sharing Hegel’s physics.
