Gustav von Schweden

Gustav of Sweden (1799–1877) was a son of King Gustav IV, studied in Lausanne, Edinburgh, and Heidelberg, and there attended Hegel’s lectures.

His father had been overthrown in 1809; the son lived as a private citizen in Vienna. That a deposed crown prince attended lectures on philosophy in Heidelberg belongs among the aftereffects of the Napoleonic upheaval — the dynastic order restored in 1815 had gaps in it.
