The other subject, that which is not object (It). In Buber: the You in the I-You relation as a primary word. In our usage: the You as the performative precondition of all logic - whoever argues presupposes an interlocutor.
Origin
Martin Buber (*I and Thou*, 1923) makes the distinction I-You vs. I-It his central theme. Levinas emphasizes the irreducibility of the Other. In our usage: the You as the necessary complement of logic.
