Friedrich Gottlob Wetzel

Friedrich Gottlob Wetzel (1779–1819) took over the editorship of the Fränkischer Merkur in Bamberg in 1809.

He was Hegel’s successor in a position that Hegel himself had held for only two years. The Merkur and the Bamberger Zeitung both stood for the Napoleonic cause — in Franconia, which had only just become Bavarian, this was by no means a matter of course.
