Ernst Friedrich Ludwig Robert

Ernst Friedrich Ludwig Robert (1778–1832) was a younger brother of Rahel Varnhagen and in 1813 attaché at the Russian legation in Stuttgart.

Like his sister, he belonged to the Berlin Jewish families whose salons shaped the social life of the city — and in which Hegel also moved. Robert had himself baptized, as many in his situation did; the legal equality that Hegel demands in the Philosophy of Right did not yet exist.
