August Friedrich Hauff

August Friedrich Hauff (1772–1809) attended the Stuttgart Gymnasium, studied law in Tübingen from 1789, and became a government secretary — at times he was imprisoned.
He was one of Hegel’s schoolmates in Stuttgart. His imprisonment reflects the political situation in the duchy: anyone who advocated too openly for the provincial estates risked trouble under the sovereign duke Karl Eugen.
