Messrs. Grimsmann and Hansen are second to none in matching the maestro, succeeding as they do in demonstrating the whole of Being as spirit-being and spirit-creation, for which they employ the format of the “triangle.” Just as Hegel not only set out the oppositions (such as nature/spirit) but again and again sublated them into higher unities, so the two triangle architects manage, astonishingly, to “break down” history and philosophy again and again coherently, so that a triangle keeps generating new sub-triangles. This may strike purist historians as somewhat contrived in the case of “world history,” but by the time one reaches the (by the way, wonderfully designed by Stefan Sy, with two dots) “system of the sciences,” it is a genuine aid to “thinking in connections.” Logic triangulates itself into concept, being, and essence. The latter into actuality, appearance, reflection into itself, and so on. Indispensable henceforth for the Hegel analyst and student of synthesis, finally, are the mini syllogism and judgment tables. One learns in pictures just how wonderfully thought-through Hegel’s seemingly impenetrable spiritual edifice really is.
