Ludwig Wegscheider

Julius August Ludwig Wegscheider (1771–1849) taught theology in Halle and represented theological rationalism.

He and Gesenius were denounced in 1830 for their teaching; the investigation ended without removal from office, but the affair showed how narrow the space for scholarly theology had become. Hegel died a year later.
